SmartVent is a tapered, under shingle plastic product designed for installation along the soffit edge of the roof or the facing edge of dormer roof to wall and goes virtually unnoticed. It allows air to flow freely through the 1″ roof decking slit providing more than adequate soffit ventilation to maximize ridge vent effectiveness. This is extremely important since most ridge vent products require an equal amount of ventilation at the soffit in order to work properly. SmartVent, when used at both soffits, has a total NFA rating of 18 sq. in. per foot(or 9 sq. in. on each side of a standard gable roof).
SmartVent is a patented roof and attic ventilation product that provides the best passive attic ventilation available. Using a unique design and installation method, SmartVent eliminates the problems and inefficiencies found in roof construction using ridge and soffit venting, namely inadequate vent openings in the soffit, dormers, transition roofs, mansard roofs, chimneys and skylights.
SmartVent End Caps are 10.5″ square tapered ventilation pieces that seamlessly blend with Smartvent to give the roof a more aesthetic and clean finish to your intake ventilation project. (Do not use SmartVent End Caps at the rake edges)
The patented ‘Universal’ SmartVent End Cap can be installed Right Side or Left Side, as you begin your SmartVent run or end the run. Designed with the contractor in mind, this easy to install end cap makes working with SmartVent simple and cost effective. Use it to end a SmartVent run near a dormer, valley, hip, chimney or skylight. Use it to begin a SmartVent run other than at the rake edge. At the rake edge, wrap SmartVent fabric around a full piece of SmartVent as shown in the SmartVent directions.
The SmartVent End Cap ‘tapers’ the SmartVent back down to the roof. All that you need to do is nail it down to the roof. Period! The fabric is already attached at the factory for right hand or left hand installations.

Building Science expert engineer Dr. Joseph Lstibuerk explains the physics associated with vented and unvented attics. Breaking down complex topics into humorous, easy to understand steps, he gives builders and insulation contractors the knowledge they need to build correctly in any climate zone around the world.
SmartVent may actually extend the life of your asphalt shingles because of the maximum intake it provides to an attic, thus a better breathing roof is a healthier roof.
You may also see a reduction in utility expenses. SmartVent keeps your attic cooler in the warm months and reduces the load needed to air-condition your home.
SmartVent attic ventilation is virtually invisible on the roof. Click on the images below to see how your house could look.
SmartVent is rated at 9 nfa/ft. SmartVent also satisfies all ridge vent and exhaust vent requirements.Patent numbers 6,212,833 & 6,447,392 issued by the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
“We have been using SmartVent for years as a great solution for inadequate ventilation on our customer’s homes. Not only does the SmartVent perform great, it installs easier than any of the competitor’s products!”
Most houses with ridge vents do not have the proper soffit ventilation required because attic insulation blocks the soffit vents. SmartVent allows cooler air to enter under the shingle, through the 1″ roof slit and out the ridge vent providing superior air flow and attic cooling.
